Community Healers Program
… is a neighborhood association of residents who desire to take back and empower their fellow neighborhood residents to reclaim their young people, reduce gun violence and crime, resurrect their neighborhood, and restore healing.
Community Healers is based out of a church or religious institutions that endorse the Adopt-A-Block philosophy:
- Reduce the epidemic of gun violence and crime
- Resurrect a block, street, or neighborhood by partnering with families and community stakeholders to improve the quality of life
- Restore hope, justice, and healing through moral improvement, economic development, and restoration of community pride
Neighborhood residents who desire to become Community Healers receive training in the following areas:
- Crisis intervention
- Communication skills
- Grief counseling
- Gang information
- Referral resources
- Public safety
Community Healers engage residents to establish a climate of safety, moral uplift, and improvement. By their example, they inspire others to be courageous and to be catalysts for change.
Community Healers participants establish their own organizational structure and hold regular meetings to carry out their mission.
